Seventh! - Elizabeth Unexplained
Lots of data but no answers
This just in on the sister front. Margaret placed 7th in the women's 20k race walk at Nationals. That's up from last year. Not bad for someone who has a full time job and had to take a couple of years off racing.

Current Mood: ecstatic ecstatic

Always wondered about race walking...

It's one of those offbeat but kinda nifty sports. How'd she get into it in the first place?

Pretty cool to place nationally. How long does it take her to walk 20k anyway?

Preparing to be astonished,

Re: Always wondered about race walking...

Let's see, the most recent event I can get a time for her was in May, and her time was 1:49:30.

She started doing track in high school because dancing was too hard on her knees! On of the male coaches of the track team at our high school was into race walking. She tried it, and was really good at it thanks to dance experience and even longer legs than mine. Also, having a high school coach who was really into it helped. The guy who represented the US in race walking in the 2004 Olympics also went to our high school, so there are a disproportionate number of top race walkers coming out of North Babylon. :)
