A post about my fertility status, probably with TMI.

So, Warren and had our first appointment at the fertility center yesterday.

It was a one hour appointment, but it could have easily been condensed to about 30 seconds thusly: "Beats the heck out of me. Here, have some Clomid."

OK, the above is a slight exaggeration, but only slight.

I did find out (by picking up my medical records on Wednesday, just in case Dr. N couldn't access them, and then reading them) that I have a retroverted uterus. That's a fancy way of saying that I'm put together slightly oddly down there, which is something I kind of knew already, I just didn't know that there was a medical term for it. However, a retroverted uterus isn't supposed to cause any fertility problems, it just means that if we end up duing IUI they have to insert the catheter upside down.

Dr. N went over all our test results from the tests we'd already done, but really this was not news to us. Swimmers are fast and numerous, my hormones are all in the normal range, and my tubes are clear. I have regular periods and I detect an LH surge when I use the OPKs. Yep, sure looks like we should be in the 85% of couples who conceive within the first year of trying... we're just not. We've now got the official label "unexplained infertility". So, Dr. N says that sometimes it looks like you're having normal periods but you're not really ovulation, and wants to put me on Clomid. I translate this to be "I've no clue, but lets try this handy drug." Whatever.

We were a little underwhelmed. Warren would have liked more advice on how we could increase our chances. I would have liked more investigation, not just throwing drugs at the situation. On the other hand, at this point I'll take the drugs. Its a low dose, and its better than yet another cycle of disappointment.</li-cut>
