OB visit #2

Yesterday was my second visit as an actual OB patient, though again it was with nurse Pollyanna and not my OB. Fetal heartbeat was present at a nice healthy 160 beats per minute. I've also shed a little weight; I'm now only one pound up on my retrieval weight, and that was with my sweater on. I should write a diet book about the wonders of the ginger ale and pickles diet.

Nurse Pollyanna was acting very excited about my NT screen on the 20th. Her basic attitude seems to be that the main event here was getting to look at the adorable little fetus, not checking to see if it's likely to have Downs Syndrome or some other major genetic problem. When I brought up the actual purpose of the screen she assured me that she was sure the fetus did not have Downs. I refrained from pointing out to her that she was also sure that I could conceive on my own if I just charted my cycles and kept on going. Sure, a healthy heartbeat is reassuring, but there is a reason why they do the ultrasound measuring thing to actually check for risk of serious problems.
