2300 - Elizabeth Unexplained
Lots of data but no answers
Wednesday's Beta was over 2300, which is good news. Next stop is an early ultrasound on the 10th.

Why aren't I posting the exact number? Well, that would be because the exact number is on a post-it note on my desk where I left it when the backup daycare called saying the Margaret was running a fever. After I picked her up there was a lot of puking, and no keeping stuff down, and after over 12 hours with no wet diaper I decided to call her doctor to see if I should bring her in and they told me to take her to Children's Hospital instead. So I got to spend several hours yesterday doing that. After some anti-nausea medication she is doing much better, but needless to say I am not going into work today. I'll be staying home next week to cover the second week of Jomkwan's vacation. So I won't have the exact number soon, but it is there waiting for me on my desk.

And now for the non medical portion of today's post: It's time for Salsa in China's fashion Friday. Here is Margaret's choice:

She loves that blue dress.

Updated to add: According to the jaedian/treptoplax information network, the post-it note says 2354.

I love your fashion Friday pictures!

So does that number give any indication of the chances that both embryos took?

The numbers are on the high side for a singleton, but they're pretty low for twins. I think that the same scenario as last time is likely, though I'd really like twins that both make it.

Where are you getting your numbers from for what's typical for twins? Yours look really good to me.

I hope they both make it! (Although you're a much braver woman than I to be wishing for three kids under two.)

Well, the initial number was lower than for the first pregnancy, and the doubling rate is not far off. I looked things up last time, I don't remember where, and that pregnancy the numbers were low for twins.

I think the place I suggested that you look last time is http://www.betabase.info . Looking there, all three of your numbers are above median for a twin pregnancy, the latest way over. The doubling rates are pretty close to the same for singletons and twins.

The ultrasound did find two amniotic sacs, but unlike last time, only one had a yolk sac. The second amniotic sac was about half as large in diameter.

Re: update

That's actually a relief - your beta numbers were high enough that if only one sac had been seen, I would have spent the next couple of weeks fretting about the possibility heterotopic pregnancy. But you have all embryos present and accounted for in the uterus where they belong.

Good luck!

Do kids get easier to deal with after 2?
enugent From: enugent Date: June 6th, 2009 10:58 pm (UTC) (Link)
Good question! :)

They get gradually less physically demanding, and more able to wait to have their needs fulfilled. But they also come up with ever more creative ways to get into trouble, at least through 3 or 4.

I personally wouldn't want to simultaneously deal with two crawlers at the same time as a toddler who has learned to take off her own diaper but isn't really potty trained, for example. But families like this do seem to manage somehow. You might have trouble finding an au pair willing to take care of 3 tiny ones at once, though.

Carrying three babies around at once could be a pretty heavy load, true. Just the one is getting kind of heavy these days, though it's usually still preferable to her cruising around the house with the high chair. (How to cruise with a high chair or adult chair: use it to stabilize your bipedal position, pushing the chair ahead of you across the floor to increase accessible locations.)

On another note, we checked out an over and under stroller today. The bigger kid gets the upper position provides a good view of the world, like a normal stroller. The smaller kid gets to sit/lie in a space underneath the bigger kid's seat. I'm thinking this must have been designed by someone who was an oldest child.

You think yours is getting heavy to carry around! Howard is rapidly approaching thirty pounds. I can't really walk around with him for long any more unless he's in a carrier, and even then I sit down a lot.

Great numbers, gorgeous baby! Sorry she's not feeling well, though. Did they give you any idea what it is? Just a tummy bug?
greyautumnrain From: greyautumnrain Date: June 5th, 2009 10:37 pm (UTC) (Link)
It was just a stomach bug. Babies dehydrate fast, that was the cause for concern.

Sorry to hear she isn't feeling well. One of the perils of daycare - catching things. Just be careful not to get it too!

I sent treptoplax over to your desk, and he says there is an undrunk cup of tea and a post it with the number 2354 on it. So there is the exact number for you.

Sounds promising though!!!!

If you are home next week and want to get together to hang out or do something let me know. Assuming of course Margaret is better and Juliette and I are done with this cold. Kids even have a half day on Wed (10th)

I would love to get together. The great thing about stomach bugs is they resolve quickly. I have an ultrasound at noon on the 10th, but otherwise my schedule is pretty open.
