You know all those Mommy Bloggers who pass on the wisdom they read in some book about how putting the baby to bed earlier won't result in her waking up proportionally earlier? They are misinformed.

Nah, they just lie. They want to share the misery.

And it doesn't stop with baby. If I put E to bed early, he also wakes up proportionally earlier. Luckily, it also works the other way, which is why we started letting him stay up to 10 on weekend nights; it was our only hope of getting a little extra sleep.

However, it stops working about the time they hit teenager-hood. You know that law about stuff expanding to fill all available space? There is a corollary to that for teenagers: sleep expands to fill all available time.

The 2 year old seems to wake up with the sun. He gets up earlier in the summer and later in the winter. Putting him to bed earlier or later doesn't seem to matter much. He makes up the difference at nap time.

I think that advice works iff your baby isn't getting enough sleep. I suspect yours is.

Howard's sleep time and waking up time do not seem to bear much correlation to one another. We put him to bed when he gets cranky, he wakes up when the sun comes up.

Most changes to the sleep routine need at least 3-4 days to settle in, so don't give up after one night.

There is a major crabby period that can last 1-4 weeks that usually happens right around the nine month mark, and often interferes with sleep.

Especially with Warren's genes, someday you're going to need a crowbar to get her out of bed in the morning. :)
