not torture
so i'm sitting here listening to the radio... and posting 1-handed... while trying to soothe a fussy baby, and i hear this report about the trial of a terror suspect and how statements taken under interrogation were being used in the trial. it turns out that while being interrogated this guy was being sleep deprived by being woken up every hour. as the mother of a 1-month old i have to admit that is darned annoying, but calling it torture... as the talking head did... is perhaps going too far. on the other hand the person waking me up once an hour is much cuter than any marine.

eta...this is somewhat tongue in cheek

I remember reading somewhere that it's lethal to be deprived of REM sleep for long enough. But, I think "long enough" is hundreds of hours.

It has to be at least 168 hours, since SEAL "hell week" is that long and involves no sleep (except for the winning team in the boat race, who get 4 hours).
