cramming
margaret is only nine days old and already she has learned the fine art of cramming. clearly she is mit material.

we walked to the doctors office today for a weight check. as we left the skies opened. she slept through some impressive thunder, lightening and pouring rain. of course the pram kept her dry. once we got to the office we sat and waited. then, exactly 2 minutes before the nurse called us she woke up hungry and started crying. she almost never does this. i'm guessing she figured out there was going to be an exam. i had to feed her before we could be seen.

she did ace the exam. 6 pounds, 14.5 ounces. she's back up to birth weight. the lesson here is that cramming pays.

That's the perfect milestone to start with.

(Maybe now you can stop waking her to feed her?)

Both our doula and the federal government recommend at least 8 feedings a day. I think this is as much to keep Elizabeth's milk production going as to ensure that Margaret gets enough milk.

I think we're still going to have to wake her sometimes to get 8 feedings. We might be able to quit waking her specifically for feeding at night, though.
