A Bigger One
‘Duncan had his follow up visit with the endocrinologist on Tuesday. He’s growing, but he’s keeping pace with the percentiles he was in last time instead of making upwards progress on the growth curve lines as we’d hoped. They took blood again, and we’ll hear back about that in about a week. In the meantime I’m continuing with my campaign of coaxing bites of food into him until he starts spitting everything out.

It has become clear that Duncan and I have different ideas about what he needs to grow. I think he needs to be eating more solid food, stuff rich in proteins and fats and vitamins. Duncan’s opinions become clear when he asks to nurse. His mournful request for “boo one” of a month or two ago when he wanted to switch sides, which I naively interpreted as ‘other one’, has clarified itself into a more distinct and commanding “a bigger one!” Duncan’s opinion is clear, his growth would not be an issue if only I had bigger boobs. Friends (and complete strangers), let me assure you that my boobs are not small. The bras I currently wear are size 36C. I eat a high fat, high protein diet taking care to get lots of Omega 3 fatty acids, and I drink lots of water. I’m still pumping three times a day at work. I am sorry that my little boy seems to feel that my breasts are inadequate, and I will continue to do what I can to promote production, but I can’t honestly agree that I am lacking in the bust department.

Oh, and while this was sitting in draft form Duncan has since graduated to “a bigger boob!” I’m always telling that boy to use nouns instead of pronouns, I’m glad he’s listening.
