Birthday Pictures
Yes, they are late, but it's been a hectic weekend. Margaret is getting her very first tooth, Warren's mother is visiting, and work was crazy. Of course the birthday girl was beautiful...

... and the big present was very well received...

... so everything was fine in the end.

What a little beauty! Where did you get the piano? It doesn't look brand-new (for one thing, it's not made of day-glo plastic) - is it an antique? I really like it! (Better than our kids' musical instrument.)

It's a Shoenhut toy piano. It is new - the little white spots are flash reflections from the highly polished surface, not chips. While it's not an antique, the company has been making them since the 1880s, and unlike a lot of companies they seem to have realized when they had a good thing that didn't need change.

They use metal chimes so no tuning is required; the keyboard touch is light enough that Margaret can easily work the keys, which is not true of some of her electronic toys. We got this two octave model for a recession induced price of about $100 from a reseller on Amazon (JoeBrands) after I ascertained that the 3 octave model I really wanted was out of stock everywhere.

They also have incredibly charming little grand pianos of the same size, but we wanted something we could butt up against a wall so Margaret wouldn't knock it over or use it as a walker.

It wasn't actually the white spots, but the pattern at the base, that made me think it had some scratches. But now that I look at the high-res version, I see that it's actually reflections of your carpet.

And I should have clarified that while the piano is lovely, by "little beauty" I was referring to your daughter. :-)

No worries, that was clear.

Oh she is such a cutie in that first picture. I will have to show it to Alex, he has been asking when she can visit again, which I think is just awesome.
